Kruger Park

The Kruger National Park, a world-renowned wildlife sanctuary and the South African flagship nature reserve offers a wildlife experience considered to be of the finest in Africa. This national park of practically 2 million hectares was founded in 1898 to protect Lowveld wild life, and still is unparalleled in the multiplicity of its life forms. Today – more than 100 years later – Kruger is home to an impressive number of species (336 trees, 49 fish, 34 amphibians, 114 reptiles, 507 birds and 147 mammals) and is a pioneer in sophisticated environmental management policies and techniques.

Guests will gladly be collected from the Johannesburg International Airport (or any of the hotels and guesthouses in Gauteng) for a drive along the Highveld farmlands, through the scenic subtropical regions of the Lowveld before arriving at Tremisana Game Lodge in the Balulue Section of the Kruger Park. After a refreshing dip in the pool or an appetiser at the bar, guests are invited on board an open Landcruiser for a Sunset Drive into the wild. Experienced guides facilitate what often proves to be a thrilling opportunity to engage with the varied African fauna and flora at first hand. Along the drive back after the magnificent African sunset, spotlights are used to find nocturnal animals before returning to dinner under the Marula Tree Boma where our rangers prepare a bush braai. After dinner the experience continues along a Night Drive before snuggling up comfortably in the air-conditioned en suite thatch-roofed chalets.

Tremisana Game Lodge

Tremisana Game Lodge is both the biggest and the foremost lodge in the Balule division of The Kruger National Park with a total of 15 fully air-conditioned, en suite chalets and a two-bedroom guest house. In and amongst a flourishing garden of palms and cycads, guests will find a splash pool, an open air boma for banquets around a crackling fire or the covered lapa overlooking the adjacent waterhole. By night-time, the romantically illuminated paved walkways make for an exquisitely dreamy feel to an outstanding site set securely in the presence of monkeys, lions, elephants and buffalo.

This game lodge is serviced by a pair of excellent boreholes and its proximity relative to the nearby tarred road means Tremisana is readily accessible all year round, including the raining seasons.

4 DAY SAFARI ITINERARY: Guests will gladly be collected from the Johannesburg International Airport (or any of the hotels and guesthouses in Gauteng) for a drive along the Highveld farmlands, through the scenic subtropical regions of the Lowveld before arriving at Tremisana Game Lodge in the Balulue Section of the Kruger Park.

Days two, three and four are equally filled with exhilarating bush experiences that vary from drives along the mighty Olifants River – a river that borders South Africa and Mozambique – to a four hour “walk in the wild” in search of the Big Five. The sheer thrill of tracking down Africa’s large animals at close range in the pursuit of that perfect photo remains with guests forever. Sharp adrenalin rushes are inevitable, notwithstanding that experienced rangers are sufficiently prepared – and armed – in the event of prospective danger.

Alternatively guests are transferred to a custom-built open-sided Gameviewer at the Orpen Gate of Kruger – a vehicle that allows for an unequivocal wildlife experience where you not only have the chance to view game, but also listen to and smell the African bush and its denizens.

2: Kruger National Park: Accomadation @ Marc’s Treehouse lodge

Kruger National Park, at just less than 2 million hectares, is one of the biggest game reserves on the African continent and part of the UNESCO “Kruger to Canyons Biosphere” designation. It is also South Africa’s most exhilarating African (fauna and flora) safari destination, immersed in myth, history and legend. While visiting here, relax and count on the expertise of your professional game rangers, who will guide you on an adventure of a life time. On your stay, be sure to take advantage of game viewing, bush walking safaris, thrilling wildlife tracking or simply just enjoy the vastness of the natural landscapes.

Marc’s Treehouse Lodge

Image, inhaling the crisp, untainted balmy air of wild African at dusk; by night falling asleep to the sloshing of the adjacent river, cries of a pack of hyenas or the plaintive exclamations of the thick-tailed bushbaby in the distance; and at sunrise, waking to the harmonious chorale of birdsong above the wildlife congregating at the water whole below.

The experience of staying at Marc’s Tree House Lodge is like none other. Sleeping among the whispers of the adjacent leafy branches, below the moonlit sky is a comfortable balance between being close to the African wild, yet cosy and safe. The accommodation varies from thatch and reed tree houses to tented units. Depending on how adventurous you are, there are also the added options of either the brick-and-mortar chalets or one of the 3 original tree houses with their private designated ablution facilities. Nine of the tree houses are not built into the trees per se, but rather on posts set in the adjacent tree canopy. These are positioned in the gallery forest, some of which overlook an illuminated waterhole – one which the resident buffalo herd frequent; while others are set along the river.

Guests who prefer alternate accommodation have the choice of brick-and-mortar guest houses as well as the seven furnished canvas tents. For the tented accommodation guests share 3 showers and 3 toilets. Marc’s Treehouse Lodge is also equipped with a swimming pool, a bush bar, a rustic countryside boma and a crackling campfire where your experiences of the day’s wildlife highlights are shared with others.

Please note that all guests staying at Marc’s Tree House Lodge spend the first night of the safari at Tremisana Game Lodge before moving to the tree houses.

Safaris

The safaris and game drives that depart from Marc’s Tree House Lodge are the same as those departing from the Tremisana Game Lodge and vary only relative to the length of your stay. Days are filled with exhilarating bush experiences that vary from drives along the mighty Olifants River – a river that borders South Africa and Mozambique – to a four hour “walk in the wild” in search of the Big Five. The sheer thrill of tracking down Africa’s large animals at close range in the pursuit of that perfect photo remains with guests forever. Kirkman’s Kamp, Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve

The world famous Kruger National Park shares unfenced borders with the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, famed for its intimate wildlife encounters and particularly leopard viewing. Home to a host of wildlife, including the Big Five – lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo and elephant – Sabi Sand is part of a conservation area that covers over two million hectares (almost five million acres). Animals roam freely between the national park and the reserve, resulting in a great diversity of wildlife in one of the richest wilderness areas on the African continent.
Step back in time at the luxurious colonial style Kirkman’s Kamp. This historic camp was originally built in the early 1920’s and the grand atmosphere, gracious style and luxury has been retained over the years. 18 guest cottages boasts spectacular views of the unspoiled wilderness surrounding the Sand River and each cottage has air-conditioning, personal bars, in- room safe, a veranda and en-suite bathroom with separate showers and bathtubs.

Daily and nightly game drives led by highly trained rangers and Shangaan trackers allow for intimate game experiences from the comfort of your open safari vehicle. The private reserve allows for off-road driving, giving you the best possible changes for close encounters with the residents of the area.
Unlike many other areas, where leopard are rarely glimpsed in daylight hours, sightings of these shy animals are not uncommon during the day. The area also supports several resident lion prides, and cheetahs are also regularly spotted in the area. Herds of elephant and buffalo, as well as family groups of white rhino, move throughout the reserve and are regularly encountered on game drives.
The deep water of the Sand River provides a home for hippo while lethargic crocodiles lounge along the wide sandy banks. Thick reed beds along the river’s course are home to many species of water birds and weavers, while water monitors slither among the tall grasses, and buffalo and elephant wallow in the cooling mud of the reed beds. This lodge is an exclusive getaway for those who value privacy, personalised service and some of the best game viewing Africa has to offer.
