Witness the world’s greatest wildlife spectacle – up close!
The seemingly endless plains of the Serengeti host one of the world’s greatest displays of animal migration. Nothing can prepare you for the sheer number of animals which descend upon the area in a pilgrimage in search of food and water. Up to 1.5 million wildebeest and zebra perform this large-scale migration. Not surprisingly, there are large numbers of predators ready to contribute to the circle of life.
Maasai pastoralists also live in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, tending their herds of cattle, sheep and goats. There is fossil evidence to suggest this area has been occupied by homids for at least 3 million years.
Highlights
Our Tanzania safari combines four of Tanzania’s prime National Parks and Game Reserves and include:
- Lake Manyara – a birding paradise (with more than 380 species), and the forests are one of the best places to see leopards. Lions hunt on the grassy shores of the lake, and are known for their unusual habit of climbing trees.
- Serengeti National Park – famous for its vast migratory herds of animals. Huge herds of wildebeest, zebra and antelope dominate the park during the Serengeti Migration. This migration means the Serengeti is one of best parks in Africa to see lion, leopard, cheetah and other predators hunting prey.
- The world-famous Ngorongoro Crater, the largest intact, unflooded caldera in the world, Ngorongoro is a haven for one of the largest permanent concentrations of large mammals in Africa. Lion and hyena are plentiful.
- Tarangire National Park is home to large herds of elephant and has spectacularly scenic baobab woodland. A seasonal migration of wildlife is concentrated here in winter.
- Accommodation varies from large lodges to small fixed tented camps and mobile tented safaris. Walking safaris as well as game drives in open vehicles and night drives are offered.
Spend time in luxurious and private tented camps; the most exclusive way of getting close to the true essence of safari.

DAY 6-8:
We drive to Olduvai Gorge where Mary Leakey made her groundbreaking discovery of a hominid (human-like) skull dating back 1.8 million years. Often referred to as the ‘cradle of mankind’, it is not hard to imagine our early ancestors beginning our history in this place. We will spend a few fascinating hours here getting an understanding of this relevance of these discoveries
You’ll also spend time in a genuine Maasai village where we’ll be able to interact with the tribes-people, talk to the kids and generally experience some of the nuances of the nomadic Maasai way of life.
Our base is in the central Serengeti; 14 763 square kilometers in extent, it reaches up to the Kenyan border and is among the finest in Africa. Thirty five species of plains dwelling animals reside here, including wildebeest and zebra, which feature in the spectacular Serengeti migration. The huge numbers of migratory animals is a magnificent sight to behold. Of course, these numbers attract the predators, and lion and cheetah sightings at this time can be outstanding.
There are also large populations of birds, reptiles and amphibians, many endemic to this area alone.
We’ll take a full day game drive on the Serengeti plains.
Overnight in a luxury private mobile Tented Camp. Each tent features a king size bed, en suite bathroom and private veranda with a stunning view over the Serengeti. Under canvas and intimate, this intimate camp captures the essence of classic mobile tented safaris, reminiscent of safaris in the old days.
-
DAY 9-10:
Drive in a northerly direction to the Mara River, in the unspoiled and undiscovered northern part of the Serengeti National Park, one of Tanzania’s best-kept secrets. The camp is ideally located to witness the world famous river crossing of the Great Migration. The Mara River area hosts many resident hippo, crocs, cats, elephants, resident zebra and wildebeest, herds of topi and less known animals such as the bat eared fox.
Our camp is currently the only (semi) permanent establishment in a wide area and due to the limited traffic off-road game-driving you will see game within a close proximity to the camp. Due to the exclusive location on the Mara River, game drives and walking safaris from Sayari Camp are unlike anything else in the Serengeti. Enjoy two days of game drives and walking safaris in this untouched wilderness.
Each of the guest tents boasts its own private veranda equipped with comfortable chairs and couches with fantastic vistas over the Serengeti landscape. Decorated with beautiful traditional cloths and contemporary furniture, the tents all have comfortable king-size beds, spacious en-suite bathrooms with a double sink, shower and ceramic flush toilet – all environmentally friendly.
