Ian

I was born and raised in the small rural village Doornkloof, where little more than a few hundred people live and work together. In retrospect, growing up living in such a closely knit community had a profound influence on how I live my adult life, most notably my appreciation of the importance of integrity and relationships, much of which also informs my offering as a tour guide.

Since moving to Cape Town, I have always found employment in and around customer relations, thrive on interpersonal communication with people from all walks of life. I have a strong passion for the history, love sharing the multiples of stories of our beautiful country and have a great admiration for senior citizens with their incredible wisdom. I am fluent in English and Afrikaans (a language from Dutch decent, but unique to South Africa), and am also in the process of learning one of the indigenous African languages namely isiXhosa.

Another important lesson from my formative years that translates into my offering as a tour guide is the importance of teamwork, I believe that team work makes the dream work. I was an avid rugby player, understand the importance of being a team player and build on lessons thereof when dealing with tour groups in all shapes and sizes. I am a quick learner, always looking for new opportunities to better the service I offer, and am passionate about flying the Roots Africa Tours and the South African flag high.
